Steve Coogan stars as a jaded detective infiltrating a heroin-smuggling ring in Legends, a nerve-jangling new thriller from Neil Forsyth, creator of The Gold. Inspired by real events from the 1990s, the show follows a team of misfit customs officers recruited at the behest of Margaret Thatcher, who needed a crisis she could solve. As the officers embed themselves within criminal gangs, the stakes rise and identities collapse. Also streaming this week: the return of Citadel, the maximalist espionage epic with Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and more.
Pick of the Week: Legends
Neil Forsyth's Legends aims for a picaresque tone similar to his previous series, The Gold. Steve Coogan plays Don, a jaded detective who assembles a team of bored or bold customs employees willing to gamble with their careers and lives. The slow-burn thriller features Tom Burke and Hayley Squires as officers who infiltrate heroin-smuggling rings. As they go deeper, events become increasingly nerve-jangling. Streaming on Netflix from Thursday.
Dr Seuss's Horton!
The slightly garish CGI animation loses some of the tactile charm of the original books, but the central premise of this breezy cartoon about a cheerful young elephant remains strong. Horton returns for a second season of low-stakes adventures with his animal pals, hunting for treasure, navigating a mud pit, and finding a lost family of butterflies. Streaming on Netflix from Monday.
Citadel
Three years after the first season, the maximalist espionage epic returns. It's a hoot if you can overlook the silliness and plot holes. The concept involves memory manipulation: Citadel agents have had their minds wiped and are unaware of their roles, but they must shape up when another world-threatening conspiracy emerges. The fun cast includes Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Stanley Tucci. Streaming on Prime Video from Wednesday.
M.I.A.
Set in Miami's murky underbelly, this crime thriller from Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque stars Shannon Gisela as Etta Tiger Jonze, a young woman whose family was slaughtered in a drug feud. She escapes and seeks revenge, Kill Bill-style, against an entire organised crime gang. The glossy, gratuitously explosive drama leans into its absurd reality. Streaming on Paramount+ from Thursday.
The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek
In this new case from the moody Danish crime thriller, a creepy nursery rhyme is the calling card of a murderous stalker. After a five-year break, mismatched detectives Naia Thulin and Mark Hess reunite, but personal business remains unfinished. A grisly case unfolds with plenty of twists and turns. Generic but gripping fare. Streaming on Netflix from Thursday.
Ammo
This Norwegian drama, set in the glass-panelled offices of arms company AGR, taps into 2026 paranoia. Executive Bjørn Urdal is recruited to handle a contract supplying drone technology to the French army, but he soon realises he's being set up to turn a blind eye to illegal AI activities. The question is: what might it cost him to speak out? Streaming on Channel 4 from Friday.
Unconditional
From the producers of Homeland, this drama about Israeli security services will raise eyebrows. It tells the story of Israeli woman Gali, charged with drug trafficking in Moscow, and her mother Orna, who frantically tries to free her, unaware of a bigger geopolitical game. Whether this is the right time for such a thriller remains to be seen, but it's played straight as a tale of innocents in over their heads. Streaming on Apple TV from Friday.
