Laurie Davidson makes his debut in BBC One's The Other Bennet Sister this evening, playing the impulsive William Ryder. The actor, best known for his role as Mr Mistoffelees in the 2019 film adaptation of Cats, describes his character as "easily distracted" and a "true kindred spirit" for Mary Bennet.
Davidson, 33, has built a career in period dramas, previously appearing as the Earl of Somerset in Mary and George and as David Blakely in ITV's A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story. His other credits include Masters of the Air, Guilty Party, The Sandman, and the film The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die.
In the Prime Video psychological thriller The Girlfriend, Davidson stars alongside Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke. His character Daniel introduces his new partner to his mother, leading to a downward spiral. Upcoming projects include the Sky Original drama Prisoner, which follows a young prison officer escorting a prisoner to testify against a criminal organisation.
Reflecting on his role in The Other Bennet Sister, Davidson said: "He sees himself as very modern and forward-thinking, but he's impulsive and easily distracted. In Mary, he sees someone completely different from the women he's known – and a true kindred spirit." The series continues Sundays at 8pm on BBC One.
