Laura Hamilton left shaken after witnessing teen die on French beach

A Place in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton has described her distress after witnessing the death of a 19-year-old boy on a beach in Montpellier, southern France. The 44-year-old took to Instagram on Friday to share her experience, saying she had barely slept because her mind was racing with the images she had seen.

Hamilton explained that after finishing filming, she went to the beach and saw a commotion. It transpired that a young man had died despite attempts to resuscitate him. She said: 'I can't begin to imagine what that poor boy's family are thinking and feeling this morning.' She urged holidaymakers to be careful of sea currents, warning: 'Life is short, we don't know what's around the corner.'

Many of her 241,000 Instagram followers offered support, with one commenting: 'How awful for you to witness. Not surprising that you couldn’t sleep.' The property expert, who splits her time between the UK, Mallorca and Dubai, also runs a YouTube channel offering advice on buying holiday homes abroad.

The tragedy comes a day after a separate incident in which two people died in the water off Mersea Island in Essex. Shelina Rhaman, 41, and her 15-year-old daughter Samiha lost their lives after trying to help a seven-year-old cousin.
