King Charles and Sir Idris Elba Mark NYMT's 50th Anniversary

King Charles has joined Sir Idris Elba at a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) in central London. The event took place on Thursday, with the King meeting students participating in musical theatre workshops.

A Royal Celebration of Youth Theatre

Charles was accompanied by Sir Idris Elba, who himself benefited from the organisation's programmes. At age 18, Sir Idris used a grant from what was then The Prince's Trust—now The King's Trust—to attend the NYMT. The charity provides music theatre opportunities and experiences to young people across the UK.

Engaging with Students and Alumni

During the visit, the King spoke with staff and supporters to learn about their work, and also watched a performance by the NYMT Adult Company. The organisation boasts a notable list of alumni, including actors Jude Law, Stephen Graham, Toby Jones, Amara Okereke, and Callum Scott Howells.
