Kendall Jenner embraced the rise of the 'fake nipple' trend as she and pal Hailey Bieber continued their Met Gala night at the star-studded after party on Monday. Hours after gracing the red carpet, the duo headed to the glitzy bash in the Upper East Side, with Kendall transforming her GapStudio gown into a sexy satin dress. Kendall's dress boasted an eye-catching corset top with the 'fake nipple' top, before flowing into a form-fitting satin skirt.
Meanwhile, Hailey, who graced the event in a Grecian-inspired Yves Saint Laurent look, switched her gown for a fun white mini dress. After attending the Met Gala itself, stars were seen making their way to the glitzy after parties, with Katy Perry and Sabrina Carpenter among those heading to a bash at Zero Bond. Katy swapped her unusual Met Gala outfit, mask and all, for a dusky pink mini dress with a furry trim, while Sabrina covered her sequinned mini dress with a dramatic Pucci-esque coat.
Anna Wintour's annual fashion extravaganza was mired in controversy from the moment it was announced in November 2025 that Lauren Sanchez and her Amazon founder husband Jeff Bezos would serve as lead sponsors and honorary chairs. On Monday, Lauren opened the event, taking prime position beside former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna and co-chair Nicole Kidman as the blue carpet at Manhattan's Metropolitan Museum of Art was officially opened. Fans were left aghast though as the event, which costs upwards of $75k for a single ticket, opened with 'cruise ship-style' entertainment.
Lauren, Anna, and Nicole were greeted with a performance from actor and singer Joshua Henry, who along with a 12-person choir, belted out a rendition of I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston. In video captured by the Daily Mail, a giddy Lauren was seen clearly enjoying the performance, dancing along to the music, but Met Gala fans were left shocked by the change of tone. 'It's giving Carnival Cruise lines,' decided one, and another agreed asking: 'Why did anyone think a cruise ship cover band was a good idea?!?' 'Looks like the cool kids need to start a new event. This one is donnnnne,' declared another commentator on Instagram.
'The farewell party for Anna Wintour's credibility' and 'This is the tackiest thing I've ever seen. Money can't buy you class' were other comments whilst many said: 'It's giving welcome to the Amazon Prime Gala'. The night didn't get much better, as devastated fans took to social media to blast the gala as the 'worst' one ever, slamming the 'cheap' outfits and sharing their outrage over the 'tacky' guest list.
Having already graced the star-studded event in their stunning looks, Hailey and Kendall were seen heading to one of the Met Gala after parties. Kendall transformed her Met Gala dress into another stunning look as she headed to the post red-carpet bash. The model put on a showstopping display in her fun nude dress. Katy Perry was among the names who made their way to the after party at Zero Bond, and she switched up her unusual Met Gala outfit for another look. The singer opted for a pale pink mini dress with a woolly trim, teamed with sheer studded heels as she headed to the bash.
Sabrina Carpenter showed off her third outfit of the evening, as she made her way to the Zero Bond party in a sparkly silver mini dress and a Pucci-esque coat. The hitmaker showed off her glitzy look as she made her way to the after party. Margot Robbie opted for a far more laid-back look as she enjoyed a night out with her pals at the Zero Bond after party. As they returned to The Ritz Hotel, Ciara and her husband Russell Wilson were hand-in-hand making their way to the after party together. The couple brought high fashion flair to the after party as Ciara arrived in a striking gold sculpted corset and a dramatic spiked headpiece.
Coco Rocha cut a striking figure at the BOOM after party in a dramatic black velvet gown. New Zealand-born model Georgia Fowler slipped into a plunging black gown adorned with beaded detailing. Venus Williams was in attendance at one of the Met Gala's many bashes, and caught the eye in a reflective black mini dress at Amber Room's party. The former tennis star posed up a storm in her fun strapless dress. Venus was supported by her husband Andrea Preti, who opted for a matador-inspired jacket with gold embroidery.
The event was noticeably missing many big names who had previously become Met Gala regulars, like Zendaya and Billie Eilish, and instead, was attended by an array of social media stars, WAGs, models and heiresses. Plenty of the stars who did show up got it spectacularly wrong, turning the red carpet into a parade of sartorial disasters and outright fashion flops. Some of the famous faces at this year's event included Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner, Sabrina Carpenter, Blake Lively, Zoe Kravitz, Hailey Bieber, Beyonce, Rihanna, Gigi Hadid, Heidi Klum and Katy Perry. But it seemed there were more Z-list celebrities than there were A-list, as other attendees included Cristiano Ronaldo's model fiancee Georgina Rodriguez, influencer Grace Ann Nader, and Rupert Murdoch and Wendi Deng's heiress daughters, Grace and Chloe.
When it came to billionaires, there were plenty, including Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, billionaire Isha Ambani, George Soros' sons Alex Soros and Robert Soros, Walmart heir S Robson Walton and venture capitalist and author Amy Griffin. A fashion industry insider told the Daily Mail ahead of the event that the Bezoses being a part of it 'felt like a real slap in the face to a lot of people.' 'It's, quite frankly, very hurtful and very disturbing for [the Bezoses] to be the face of this year's Met Gala, something that is really meaningful to a lot of people and to such a highly regarded and highly respected institution,' the source said. Amazon billionaire Bezos notably skipped the red carpet after allegedly paying $10 million to co-chair.
