Fans of both Game of Thrones and Stranger Things have only just realised that Joseph Quinn, known for his breakout role as Eddie Munson, appeared in an earlier episode of the HBO fantasy drama. The British actor played a minor character called Koner, a Stark loyalist, in the seventh series of Game of Thrones.
In the episode titled The Spoils of War, Koner is seen guarding the gates of Winterfell alongside a fellow soldier, Henk, played by Danny Kirrane. Their scene occurs when Arya Stark, portrayed by Maisie Williams, returns to the castle and demands entry, only to be mocked and dismissed by the guards, who believe she is dead.
The interaction takes a turn when Arya warns the soldiers of consequences if her sister, Sansa Stark, learns they refused her entry. Koner and Henk argue about who should escort her, allowing Arya to slip through the gates unnoticed.
Quinn, who later landed the role of Johnny Storm in Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps and is set to appear as George Harrison in an upcoming Beatles film, has been spotted in the 2017 episode by viewers rewatching the series. A recent Reddit thread prompted many to share their surprise, with one user writing, 'I was today years old when I realized that Joseph Quinn was also in GoT!'
The episode was directed by Matt Shakman, who would go on to direct Quinn in The Fantastic Four. Quinn has also featured in Gladiator II and BBC dramas, and is expected to return as the Human Torch in Avengers: Doomsday, due for release in late 2026.
