Jon Kay Bids Emotional Farewell to BBC Breakfast Colleague Katie Gornall After Olympics Coverage

Jon Kay said an emotional goodbye to Katie Gornall on Monday's edition of BBC Breakfast, thanking her for her coverage of the 2024 Olympics from Paris.

After a montage of Team GB's Olympic moments, Gornall admitted to feeling moved. Kay told her: 'See you there, Katie, look forward to it, only four more years to go.' He added: 'Thanks so much for the last few weeks, it's been brilliant.'

Gornall, joining via video link, said: 'Gosh I was getting emotional listening to that then. There have been so many incredible memories... a highlight for me was in the artistic swimming when Britain won their first-ever medal.'

Co-host Sally Nugent noted that while Team GB hit their total medal target, the number of golds was down, asking: 'How much of an investigation will there be into the lack of gold medals?' Gornall confirmed: '14 Gold medals won by Team GB at these games, that's down from Tokyo where they won 22. Britain is seventh in the medals table, their lowest finish for 20 years.'
