John Simm has confirmed that filming for the final episode of ITV's crime drama Grace season seven is underway, with four new feature-length films expected to arrive in early 2027.
The 56-year-old actor, who plays detective Roy Grace, shared the update on his Instagram account, posting stills from the show. He captioned them: “We’ve been busy! about to start shooting the final episode of GRACE season 7.”
He added: “Four new feature length films will be with you in early 2027 @itvstudios @itvxofficial Watch this GraceSpace for more info…”
Season 7 release expectations
ITV has yet to confirm a release date for the seventh season. Previous seasons have aired in March or April, with only one series debuting in July, so season seven is expected to hit screens in spring 2027.
The upcoming season will see Roy and partner Glenn Branson, played by Richie Campbell, taking on new cases. Returning cast members include Laura Elphinstone as Bella Moy and Juliette Motamed as Vee Wilde.
Series background and fan reception
Grace first debuted in 2021 and is based on Peter James' bestselling detective novel series. Each season sees Grace and Branson facing peril, with author James joking last year about putting the duo in constant jeopardy. He said: “John and [Glen Branson star] Richie [Campbell] must think I spend all my time in my office thinking, 'What is the worst torture I can now put them through?'”
Like ITV crime shows Vera and Endeavour, season seven will follow a similar format with four standalone cases. Fans have shared glowing reviews on IMDb, with one 10/10 review praising Simm's “brilliant performance” and hoping ITV will film all the books. Another reviewer called the series an “excellent mystery,” noting that “no two episodes were alike.” A third, in a 9/10 review, described it as “a brilliant and different cop series” with stories that “keep twisting and turning.”
