British actor Jim Sturgess, best known for his roles in films like Across the Universe and One Day, has shared surprising insights into his dual career as both an actor and a musician in a candid new interview.
Sturgess, who first gained recognition for his musical talents in the Beatles-inspired musical Across the Universe, revealed how Hollywood initially struggled to categorise his unique blend of skills. "There was always this confusion," he admitted. "People didn't know whether to put me in the actor box or the musician box."
From Silver Screen to Recording Studio
The multi-talented performer spoke about the challenges of maintaining both careers simultaneously, noting that the entertainment industry often prefers artists to specialise. "When you're known for one thing, it can be hard to convince people you're serious about the other," Sturgess explained.
Despite these challenges, the 45-year-old has continued to pursue both passions, recently releasing new music while maintaining an active acting career. His latest project sees him returning to his musical roots, though he remains tight-lipped about specific details.

The actor-musician credits his early success in Across the Universe with giving him the confidence to pursue both disciplines. "That film was such a perfect marriage of everything I loved," he reflected. "It showed me I didn't have to limit myself."
As for future projects, Sturgess remains open to opportunities that allow him to combine his talents. "The ideal would be something that lets me act, sing, and maybe even write the music," he revealed. "But really, I'm just grateful to be able to do what I love in any form."
