Jeremy Renner has admitted he is unsure about the future of his Marvel series Hawkeye, stating he has not discussed a potential second season with anyone at Marvel. The actor, currently promoting the third season of Mayor of Kingstown, told RadioTimes.com: 'I don’t know, I haven’t gone down that road with anybody at Marvel about it - so, yeah. I don’t know what’s going on. I’m focusing on this right now.'
Renner's comments follow reports that Hawkeye season 2 had been rumoured to have been green-lit, possibly with a reduced role for his character Clint Barton. However, in February 2024, Renner told Entertainment Tonight he was 'always game' to return, adding: 'I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready.'
The first season of Hawkeye debuted in 2021, following Clint Barton as he mentored protégée Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld. Fans have been awaiting news of a second season, but no official announcement has been made.
Meanwhile, Renner is focused on the third season of Mayor of Kingstown, which premieres on Paramount Plus on 2 June 2024. The series sees him return as lead Mike McLusky, with the new season reflecting his own journey after his near-fatal snowplow accident in January 2023, which left him with 38 broken bones and requiring multiple surgeries.
