Loose Women treated viewers to a throwback clip of Janet Street-Porter's cameo in Neighbours, following Channel 5's decision to drop the Australian soap from UK screens after nearly four decades.
The 75-year-old panellist appeared in the iconic Ramsay Street drama in 2019 as part of the show's '20 before 20' challenge. In the clip, she played herself at the Waterhole bar, joking to Terese Willis: "You Australians really know how to cut loose! You know what, I haven't been grumpy for four hours, that's a record for me!"
After the clip aired, Street-Porter expressed her disappointment over Neighbours' impending departure, saying: "I'm really sad that unless money can be found it's just going to fizzle off our screens." She added: "It launched the careers of so many stars like Russell Crowe, Margot Robbie - me!"
She described her role as "brilliant fun" and revealed a personal mission to appear in as many soaps as possible. "So far I've managed to be in Hollyoaks at a wedding reception, I haven't managed to be a body in Casualty, but I was very thrilled to be in Neighbours," she said.
Channel 5 announced it will cease broadcasting Neighbours beyond this summer, citing a focus on investment in original British drama. The soap, which first aired in the UK in 1986, has attracted over one million viewers daily across two showings.
