In an interview, the actor described how she has found freedom by rejecting surgical tweaks and embracing her natural appearance, wearing grey hair and little makeup.
Curtis revealed she had a cosmetic procedure at age 25 after a film-set comment about ‘baggy’ eyes, which she later regretted. She now advocates for ageing naturally, arguing that ‘generations of women have been disfigured’ by the industry’s demands. The actor also criticised the Women In Film community, stating she still feels excluded from its events.
Known for her brusque manner, Curtis said she has no problem telling people to ‘back the fuck off’ when they make demands on her time. She described herself as ‘aggressively early’ to appointments, a habit she attributes to a need for control rather than anxiety. Her daughter Annie has told her that people aren’t ready for her, to which Curtis replies: ‘That’s their problem.’
The actor, who has starred in hits such as Halloween and Knives Out, noted that she has never been considered a heavyweight actor or conventional A-lister. She has been overlooked by the Oscars since her early career, despite her enduring popularity. Curtis is now in a ‘glorious phase’ of her career, feeling free from misconceptions.
