James Nightingale and Ste Hay are plotting to leave Hollyoaks together as suspicions around Rex Gallagher's murder intensify. Rex was shot dead earlier this month by an unknown attacker while working late at the garage. He had recently rekindled his romance with Ste, who had struggled with Rex's interest in feminine clothing.

James, believed dead by much of the village, has returned, and his timing has raised red flags for Leela Dexter. She has previously voiced her distrust of James. When James and Ste quickly rekindle their romance, Leela grows even more suspicious, wondering if they were involved in Rex's death.
Support and a surprise
Leah Barnes has expressed support for James and Ste's renewed relationship, but Leela's reaction remains unclear. Meanwhile, James and Ste prepare to go away together. Before their trip, James surprises Ste with a visit to the graveyard, where they stand before a headstone bearing James's own name, aiming to bury the past for good.
Grief catches up
