James Acaster explains Traitor admission on Celebrity Traitors

James Acaster has spoken out after admitting he was a Traitor on Celebrity Traitors, just hours before the BBC show's final. His confession led to his banishment during the Round Table on Thursday, October 29.

During the episode, the remaining contestants deliberated over who to banish, with attention turning to Acaster after Michael Sheen pointed the finger at him while they discussed Ross Kemp's murder in plain sight. Acaster, who was recruited as a Traitor by Maya Jama and Richard E Grant early in the series, had made clear from the start that he wanted to be a Faithful.

Why did James Acaster admit to being a Traitor?

Speaking after his shock banishment in the penultimate episode, Acaster said it has set the scene for a great final on Friday, October 30. "I feel pretty good getting to episode nine, and now we've got a proper final on our hands," he said. "With three Traitors, it would have been a foregone conclusion that we were going to win. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was hilarious at one point that we were just going to walk our way to the final and win the whole thing, but this is much better, isn't it?"

He added: "As a Traitor sometimes, when you see people have real life reactions that are bigger than the game, you feel bad. I would have to remind myself they don't have a game without you, literally, if no one's doing this stuff, they can't play, and they all want to play. So you are doing an important job here. When they catch you, they'll be really happy and they'll like it."

Who's in the Celebrity Traitors final?

Seven celebrities have made it through to the final: Michael Sheen, Maya Jama, King Kenny, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, James Blunt, Sebastian Crost and Romesh Ranganathan. The remaining Traitors are Maya and Kenny.

Other contestants who were Traitors during the series include Richard E Grant, who was the first Traitor ever to be banished at the first Round Table of a series, and Hannah Fry. Grant's banishment came after he announced to everyone that he was a Traitor in the first episode.
