Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has disclosed the only plotline from the ITV soap that he has 'taken home' with him since his debut 26 years ago.
The Heartbreaking Storyline
Jack, who plays David Platt, was recast in the role at age 12 in 2000, replacing Thomas Ormson. Earlier this month, he marked 10 years since his character witnessed wife Kylie Platt die in his arms after being stabbed by teenager Clayton Hibbs in July 2016. At the time, Kylie had just revealed plans to move to Barbados following the killing of her ex Callum, but her death shattered those dreams.
Jack's Emotional Revelation
Speaking on his podcast 'On the Sofa' with co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price, Jack said: "It's the fist time ever, ever working at Corrie, and still is where I've actually taken a storyline home with me and been really, really upset and feeling a loss when no one's dead.
"It was three weeks of just crying and having to go to like a dark place and think of horrific things to get that emotion." Ben Price, who plays Jack's on-screen brother Nick Tilsley, added: "It was like, you actually physically went through it. We watched it. And then there was all the aftermath and you went, 'Oh?' We were all involved. It felt literally like she'd gone."
Jack continued: "I remember I couldn't even do the line run. If I do a line run, I'll go in the line run. I think we did two takes in the end." When asked about the silent scream, Jack said they discussed nothing beforehand: "Literally didn't say anything." He explained that the script called for a cry, but he decided to see what happened spontaneously.
