Jaafar Jackson, nephew of the late Michael Jackson, has been cast to play the King of Pop in a forthcoming biopic titled 'Michael'. The announcement was made on January 31 by director Antoine Fuqua, who praised Jaafar as the perfect choice to explore the journey of the legendary singer.
Jaafar, son of Jermaine Jackson, is best known as a singer and dancer, having released his debut single 'Got Me Singing' in 2019. This role marks his first major acting credit. In a social media post, he expressed his honour and humility at bringing his uncle's story to life.
The biopic will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, known for films such as 'Training Day' and 'The Equalizer', with a screenplay by John Logan and production by Graham King, who previously produced 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. The film is co-produced by the co-executors of Jackson's estate, John Branca and John McClain.
According to reports, the film will cover Jackson's early years with The Jackson 5, his rise to fame, and the sexual assault allegations that surrounded him before his death in 2009. A release date has not yet been announced, but Fuqua stated it is 'coming soon'.
