After eight months of anticipation, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will cross over for the first time in a one-hour special titled 'Corriedale', airing tonight at 8pm on ITV1. The episode will not be released early on ITVX or YouTube to preserve surprises.
The special features a multi-vehicle crash on a country road, involving 40 characters from both soaps plus newcomer Jodie, played by Olivia Frances-Brown. The storyline includes a wedding, a love triangle, and a hostage situation, culminating in chaos at Hotten General Hospital.
Filming took place over three weeks in October, including a 12-night shoot on a disused road near Harrogate, Yorkshire. Cast and crew from both shows worked together for the first time.
Viewers can vote for an extra crossover scene via official social media pages, with voting closing 15 minutes before transmission. The winning scene will be included in the final version of the episode.
Corriedale marks the start of a new scheduling pattern for ITV soaps: from Tuesday, Emmerdale will air at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm on weeknights, each losing 30 minutes of screen time.
