ITV has shared first-look pictures of Michelle Keegan's latest project, The Blame, a six-part murder mystery drama set to premiere this autumn. The series follows DI Emma Crane (Keegan) and DI Tom Radley (Douglas Booth) as they investigate a tragic death in the seemingly quiet town of Wakestead.
Michelle Keegan's rise to fame
The Stockport native first rose to fame playing Tina McIntyre on Coronation Street from 2008 until her character was killed off in 2014. After leaving the soap, she won accolades for her role in the BBC drama Ordinary Lives and starred in three seasons of the military drama Our Girl. She also played Bobby Moore's ex-wife in ITV's Tina and Bobby and appeared in Sky One's Brassic.
Keegan gained global popularity in 2024 with the Netflix adaptation of Harlan Coben's Fool Me Once, where she played an ex-army captain who believes her murdered husband may still be alive.
The Blame cast and plot
Alongside Keegan and Booth, the cast includes Ian Hart as DCI Kenneth Walker, Nathan Mensah as DC Lewis Brimah, Nigel Boyle as digital forensic technician Neil Shergill, Joe Armstrong as ice-skating coach Kyle Frasier, and Matilda Freeman as Sophie Madsen. The Wakestead Police team features Gavin Spokes, Josh Bolt, and Ceallach Spellman as DC Joel Stevens, DC Douglas James, and PC Callum Drummond.
The synopsis reads: “A murder enquiry soon spirals into a tangled web of lies, institutional cover-ups and moral compromise. As the clock ticks and trust fractures, Crane must navigate both a murder investigation and the treacherous politics inside her own team.” The series is based on the debut novel of the same name by Charlotte Langley and executive produced by Emmy Award nominee Megan Gallagher.
Production details
The first three episodes are directed by Bex Rycroft, and the final three by Claire Tailyour. Each episode has a 60-minute runtime. ITV has teased that The Blame offers ‘complex characters, unexpected twists and a riveting mystery’.
