Veteran ITV newsreader Trevor Green has died at the age of 74 after developing breathing problems. He passed away on his birthday, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues and viewers.
His wife Joanna announced the death in a statement posted on Facebook, writing: "Trevor slipped away peacefully this morning in the early hours of what is today his 74th Birthday. He developed breathing probs last evening. I've lost my soul mate and feel rather at sea. But thankfully he's now out of pain."
Chris Moore, a former colleague at Piccadilly Radio, described Green as a "gem" and said: "He was one of the nicest, kindest, sharpest, wittiest, coolest and most professional people I ever had the honour to work with."
Green was a prominent figure on Granada Reports for nearly 20 years, becoming a trusted face in the North West. He left the programme in 2006 to focus on his media consultancy, Vision Impact, and later worked as a media relations officer for Cheshire East Council.
His wife Joanna added: "Taking quiet me-time out today to reflect on our 44 years together. Will miss him like mad."
