A small fire at ITV's London studios forced the breakfast programme Good Morning Britain off air on Tuesday morning. The London Fire Brigade confirmed that the blaze broke out in the post room on the first floor of the building on the South Bank, prompting an evacuation of around 50 people.
Four fire engines and 21 firefighters attended the scene after being called just before 07:00 GMT. The fire was quickly extinguished, causing damage to part of the post room. The cause is now under investigation.
Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway posted a video on Twitter showing the team outside, stating: 'We're all outside, the building has been evacuated. The fire service are here now so we're not too worried, but who knows when we'll actually get back on air.' Co-host Ben Shephard later shared a picture with firefighters and fellow presenters Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh.
ITV replaced the live programme with a pre-recorded version of Good Morning Britain, followed by an episode of Dinner Date shortly after 7:30am. The show remained off air until Lorraine began as scheduled at 08:30 GMT. This is the second time in recent months that the programme has been disrupted by a fire; a similar incident occurred last August due to an overheated fuse box on the third floor.
