ITV boss Kevin Lygo has confirmed the future of the broadcaster's daytime TV shows after viewers reacted angrily to a series of changes made this year.
At the end of 2025, ITV announced that both Lorraine and Loose Women would air for 30 weeks out of the year instead of 52. Lorraine was also cut from a full hour to 30 minutes, and the programme moved to a new studio.
Backlash over Loose Women audience removal
Loose Women also removed its live audiences at the start of the year, a decision that drew criticism from viewers. One person said it is 'Not the same' without the crowd, while another commented: "Where is the audience? It sounds flat."
Many have speculated that Lorraine and Loose Women could be axed following the adjustments, according to the Daily Record.
Kevin Lygo's five-word reassurance
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Kevin Lygo addressed the future of daytime TV at the broadcaster and praised the 'extraordinary' job the team are doing. He sealed the shows' future in five words: "Yes, we'll continue with it."
He detailed how 'cost-effective' the shake-up has been and highlighted the importance for audiences to feel that 'live connection' each day. He added: "So, yeah, of course, it will continue."
Denise Welch announces Loose Women exit
Both Lorraine and Loose Women are currently off air during the summer break, and one fan-favourite has announced their exit from the programme this month. Denise Welch confirmed she won't be returning to the ITV show in a statement on Instagram.
She wrote: "I'm leaving Loose Women after the best part of 25 years on and off. I did leave for about seven years and went back in 2018, and this show has been part of mine and my family's life for well nearly a quarter of a century.
"I have the most wonderful, wonderful memories, and it's just that acting has always been my first love, and I think the thing I'm best at."
She added that she is entering a 'new chapter' of her life, before thanking people who have shared stories with her. Loose Women is available to watch on ITVX.
