Coronation Street delivered a bombshell on Tuesday night as Idris Nazir revealed his true identity to a shocked Alya Nazir. The character, played by Junade Khan, disclosed that he is not Alya's cousin but her uncle, following an affair between Alya's grandfather Sharif Nazir and Idris's mother.
Idris first appeared on the cobbles in May, quickly embarking on a romance with Leanne Battersby and bringing Brody Michaelis into his business. After learning from Leanne that Alya's heart was not in the family restaurant Speed Daal while she juggled her legal career, Idris approached her about selling her share. Alya admitted the restaurant was never her thing but she kept it as a favour to her grandma Yasmeen.
Idris Reveals Family Secret
Later, Idris dropped the explosive revelation. He explained that his mother had an affair with Sharif Nazir, making him the late Kal Nazir's half-brother and thus Alya's uncle. Idris noted this was why he was absent at Kal's funeral in 2015, adding: "I'm surprised Yasmeen never told you the truth! Even when she found out exactly what sort of person Sharif was." He continued: "I don't want it to sound like I'm blaming Yasmeen. I mean, my mum swore me to secrecy."
Alya was left confused, saying: "I just don't understand why my gran didn't tell me when she chucked my granddad out..." She wanted to call Yasmeen but remembered: "She's on holiday in Pakistan!" providing an update on Yasmeen, who left the cobbles in 2025 after 11 years.
Leanne's Reaction and Idris's Plan
Overhearing the drama, Leanne found it amusing that she had slept with both brothers due to her past fling with Kal. However, she was soon surprised by Idris's next plan. He admitted: "Well, Alya needed to know her gran's been keeping a secret from her. And hey, maybe she loses a bit of loyalty to Yasmeen, she'll be more likely to sell this place to me." He added: "But just keep that to yourself for now, yeah? I want a pick-me moment. Like you say, she's sleeping on this place. You and me running it together could make a killing."
