Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) was left in shock as the judge sentenced him to eight months in prison in Monday’s (July 27) episode of EastEnders. The long-time show icon found himself in trouble with the law on the evening of Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) and Ross Marshall’s (Alex Walkinshaw) wedding after he unknowingly reversed his car into Jordan Fox (Jahsiah Williams).
Jordan was left with serious injuries, with Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) devastated. Ian was arrested and forced to take a breathalyser test. He was confirmed to be over the limit, which led to him being charged. The patriarch subsequently pleaded guilty and headed to court for his sentencing.
Chelsea’s Guilt and Missing Statement
Knowing Ian could be facing prison, Chelsea felt guilty, opening up to Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) about how – on the night in question – she shouted at Jordan moments before the incident, instructing him to leave her alone. As a result, she decided to go to court and deliver a statement to help Ian out.
Ian was relieved to hear such a thing, knowing that this – coupled with the fact that Jordan was showing signs of improvement – would bode well for him. However, Chelsea never showed up.
The Sentencing
In emotional scenes, the judge sentenced Ian to eight months behind bars. ‘You were over the limit’, he said, explaining his reasons. ‘And your role as a local councillor should make you even more cautious about such things.’ Ian was devastated.
The good news for fans is that the flashforward episode from earlier in the year – which showcased what happens on New Years’ Day 2027 – showed Ian to be out of prison, so it’s safe to assume that there are more twists to come.
