John Middleton warns Hollyoaks villain Froggy will get even darker

John Middleton, best known for playing Emmerdale vicar Ashley Thomas, has warned that his new Hollyoaks character Froggy Black is set to become even more sinister. The actor, who joined the Channel 4 soap earlier this year, described Froggy as a 'complete villain' with few redeeming features.

Middleton told Metro that audiences have only seen the surface of Froggy's evil. 'I don't know exactly what's planned but yes, he's very, very dark,' he said. The character, recently released from prison, has already displayed abusive and sociopathic behaviour.

The role marks a dramatic departure from Middleton's beloved Emmerdale character Ashley, whose heartbreaking dementia storyline earned critical acclaim. 'From vicar to villain is quite a leap but that's why I love this part,' Middleton explained.

Comparing the two soaps, Middleton praised Hollyoaks' production values, noting the use of single-camera filming. 'The pace is a lot slower... the stories are very fast and furious, but the pace in which we tell them is a bit more muted,' he said.

Middleton added that Froggy's dark history means he knows where 'all the bodies are buried', hinting at further revelations to come.
