The 49-year-old actress, who has been a cornerstone of the show for over a decade, informed producers of her decision towards the end of last year and will film her emotional departure in the coming months.
Fletcher's exit threatens to dismantle one of the soap's most popular on-screen partnerships, as she plays Diane Hutchinson opposite Nick Pickard's character Tony Hutchinson. Rumours are circulating that her character could be killed off in a dramatic storyline.
