Hollyoaks actor Trevor A Toussaint dies aged 65

The entertainment world is in mourning following the death of beloved actor Trevor A Toussaint, best known for his role as Walter Deveraux in Channel 4's Hollyoaks. He was 65 years old.

A Career of Breaking Barriers

The sad news was confirmed by his agent and former co-star, Kellé Bryan. A formal statement from his management announced: "It is with deep sadness that we formally announce the passing of Trevor A Toussaint." The statement continued, expressing that his family wished to thank the public for their support while they privately grieve the loss of a "loving father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend."

Toussaint portrayed the character of Walter Deveraux in 147 episodes of the long-running serial drama between 2018 and 2022. He was a pivotal part of the show's first black family, a legacy he was immensely proud of.

Heartfelt Tributes from Co-Stars and Friends

Kellé Bryan, who both managed Toussaint for over 20 years and played his on-screen daughter Martine, led the emotional tributes. On Instagram, she described the difficulty of finding words, calling him "Gone, but has left such an imprint on my heart." She highlighted his groundbreaking career, which began in the 1970s when roles for black actors were often limited to stereotypes.

"He wore his waist-length dreadlocks with pride for over 10 years, fighting against every stereotype," Bryan wrote. She recalled a time he was asked to cut his hair for a lucrative role and "forthrightly said 'no'." She credited him with breaking boundaries and "making a pathway for others."

The comments under her post filled with condolences from the acting community:

  • Jessica Fox (Nancy Osborne): "Very sad to read this, he was such a gentleman and I was fascinated by the stories of his incredible life."
  • Richard Blackwood (Felix Blackwood): "My very first scene was with T and he made me bring my A game! We were friends from that day on and off screen!"
  • Nikki Sanderson: "Such sad news, Trevor was a lovely man who took time to talk with everyone he met... He was always so kind with me."
  • Ricky Norwood: "Can’t believe this... Trevor is a diamond of a man. He will be missed."
