Kaitlin Olson, who plays lead character Morgan in Disney+'s crime thriller High Potential, has addressed the fate of Nick Wagner (Steve Howey) after the season 2 finale left his life hanging in the balance. The episode, titled 'Family Tree', ended with Nick shot and bleeding heavily, with viewers unsure if he survives.
Olson told Variety that the ambiguity was intentional: 'We wanted to have a little bit of a mystery, and we also wanted to stump Morgan. It was very important to me that she's not always right about everything.' She noted that Morgan's emotional reaction in the finale shows how much she cares, adding to People: 'Now more than ever, now that somebody that she deeply cares about got really hurt or is potentially dead, everything changed.'
Howey was only contracted as a series regular for one season, but Olson confirmed that Nick's fate is still under discussion. 'It's definitely being discussed... There is a lot on the table. We're going to have to have some answers there pretty quickly,' she said. The show is also searching for a new showrunner ahead of season 3.
Howey's packed schedule—including roles in The Lincoln Lawyer, Ransom Canyon, and Off Campus—could complicate a return. Fans fear Nick may die off-screen, but Olson hinted that the character's storyline is far from resolved.
