Call the Midwife Updates

Earlier this year, series 15 of Call the Midwife aired with a heartbreaking finale as Sister Monica Joan was laid to rest following chronic kidney disease. Series 16 has been announced, but there have been reports of a delay as the team focuses on filming the prequel Sisters in Arms. The synopsis reads: 'In September 1939, Sister Monica Joan is in her prime, Sister Julienne and Sister Evangelina are young and zealous, and Nonnatus House is the beating heart of Poplar. Together with Sister Alice, and local GP Dr Kit, the nuns dedicate their lives to mothers, babies and the poor. But there is no gas and air, no penicillin, no cure for TB, and no welfare state. Then war is declared - and life gets even harder.'

Helen George's Role in Call the Midwife

Fans feared Helen George might exit the show after her on-screen husband Matthew (played by Olly Rix) was written out, prompting Trixie's brief journey to the United States. However, Helen quickly debunked the departure rumours, confirming she never planned to leave the role. She successfully filmed series 14 as a single woman back at Nonnatus House.
