HBO has renewed its forthcoming Harry Potter television adaptation for a second season, months before the first instalment is due to premiere at Christmas this year. The second season is scheduled to begin filming in autumn 2026, with Jon Brown elevated to co-showrunner alongside Francesca Gardiner to manage overlapping production schedules.
Decade-Long Adaptation Plan
The series aims to adapt all seven J.K. Rowling novels over a decade, with each season covering one book, making 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' the likely focus of the second instalment. Production for the first eight-episode season, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,' began in July 2025 and stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron.
Record-Breaking Trailer
The show's first trailer became HBO's most-watched in history, garnering over 277 million views in 48 hours, despite ongoing backlash regarding author J.K. Rowling’s views on gender.
