Nicholas Hoult is reportedly set to join the cast of HBO's Harry Potter TV reboot as Gilderoy Lockhart, according to Variety. The 36-year-old actor, known for Skins and his role as a thorn in Superman's side, will take on the vainglorious professor, originally played by Kenneth Branagh in the films.
Confirmed Cast for the Golden Trio and Hogwarts Staff
Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, following Daniel Radcliffe. Arabella Stanton takes on Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout rounds out the trio as Ron Weasley. John Lithgow is set as Albus Dumbledore, with Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Paul Whitehouse will play Argus Filch, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Warwick Davis reprises his role as Filius Flitwick.
Students and Weasley Family Additions
Lox Pratt is cast as Draco Malfoy, with Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, and Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom. The Weasley family includes Tristan Harland as Fred, Gabriel Harland as George, Ruari Spooner as Percy, and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny, though Cochrane will step away from the role in season two.

Johnny Flynn will play Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge. Amos Kitson takes on Dudley Dursley, with Mickey McAnulty as Piers Polkiss. Anton Lesser is cast as Garrick Ollivander. Release Date and Episode Count
The first season will premiere globally on HBO Max on December 25, 2026, with eight episodes, focusing on the first book. Filming began July 14 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden. Each of the seven books will receive its own season.
