Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of using their children as a ploy to secure another lucrative Netflix deal, as the Duke's solo UK trip descended into chaos. US broadcaster and commentator Megyn Kelly told Piers Morgan Uncensored that the couple's recent discussions about bringing their children to Britain were driven by a need for content.
Alleged Motive Behind the Visit
“Whenever [Harry and Meghan] get a little bored, they decide to get themselves in the news, typically at the expense of the Royal Family,” Kelly said. “Why are they even talking about the possibility of having Meghan go to the UK and bring the two children? Because they need another Netflix hit … Everything they've touched has turned to s**t, other than the one exposé on the Royal Family.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a lucrative contract with Netflix after moving to the US and founding production company Archewell. Their docuseries about their exit from the Royal Family became the streaming giant's biggest debut in the genre. However, subsequent projects—including a sports documentary on polo and Meghan's lifestyle and cooking show—reportedly performed poorly, leading to a renegotiated “first look deal” giving Netflix priority on their future productions.
Security Fears and Legal Setback
Harry attributed his decision to travel alone to security concerns for his family after he reportedly failed to secure taxpayer-funded protection. The protection was removed when he and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020. Meanwhile, the Duke's legal battle against Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail, ended in defeat on Tuesday. A judge dismissed all counts of voicemail interception, landline tapping, and obtaining information by deception brought by Harry and other claimants including Sir Elton John.
Harry denounced the verdict as a “complete and obvious whitewash” and criticised “the lengths to which the court has gone to exonerate the Mail” as “shocking and unwarranted.” Sources suggested the case could have compromised his father King Charles III's constitutional position.
Royal Rift and Accommodation Snub
In a clear sign of the ongoing rift, Harry was barred from staying at Buckingham Palace this week after initially rejecting the offer and then U-turning too late. A statement said the decision was due to the late acceptance and the ongoing High Court case. The Duke's visit marks the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, but analysts suggest the trip has been overshadowed by controversy.
