David Harbour has expressed his excitement about reuniting with his former Stranger Things co-star Millie Bobby Brown in a new Netflix spy drama, dismissing previous reports of a rift between them.
The pair, who played father and daughter Hopper and Eleven for over a decade, will swap the supernatural world of Hawkins for a tense father-daughter relationship in the upcoming series written by Jack Thorne, known for Adolescence.
Harbour's Excitement and Teases
Harbour, 51, said: "I'm really excited to be back with her. I love working with her." He also teased a "wild and rich" relationship between their new characters, promising the series will have "deep emotion" while delivering surprises.
The actor explained that he and Brown wanted to bring some of the chemistry audiences loved between Hopper and Eleven into their new project. He added: "One of the most beautiful things about [Stranger Things] was people love that show and they loved Hopper and Eleven. They loved that relationship. I think the guys did a terrific job on Season 5, but I just don’t think you could pay off that relationship in the way that people wanted it to pay off. I just don’t think there’s a way."
He continued: "And so Millie and I, I think we wanted to bring you something with the chemistry of these two, of me and her, that will surprise you and that will be rich, and have that deep emotion, but also be just wild."
New Series Details
Harbour also praised Thorne, saying: "I’m really excited about Jack, I think he’s a brilliant writer. A24 is producing with us. It has a lot of stuff to say about this modern contemporary world we’re living in as well that I’m really excited to keep doing."
The series will see Harbour play disgraced FBI agent-turned-security expert Matt Wolfe, who is pulled back into the dangerous world he left behind when his estranged daughter Rebecca, played by Brown, disappears while on an FBI mission. The pair will also executive produce the project, alongside Brown's husband Jake Bongiovi and her father Robert Brown.
Addressing the Rift Reports
The reunion follows reports that Brown had accused Harbour of bullying and harassment before filming the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. The claims sparked speculation, but the pair continued to support each other publicly.
Harbour previously addressed the claims in Variety: "It’s a show that went on for 10 years. We worked together for 10 years during her formative teenage years, playing father and daughter. I don’t know if people have families and friends that you spend a lot of time with for 10 years — you occasionally get in arguments, disagreements. It was just a simple rupture-and-repair thing that, once we cleared everybody out of the way and talked to each other, we’re fine. Everyone nowadays is very scared of talking about things. People are very scared of being human. It’s unfortunate, because I don’t know how to navigate this weird media world. But it was completely normal, and we adore each other and always have."
Now they are preparing to step back into a father-daughter dynamic once again—only this time, they’ll be on opposite sides of a spy thriller.
