After 22 seasons, Grey's Anatomy is set to bid farewell to two major characters, with creator Shonda Rhimes confirming that Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) will leave in the season finale in May. The decision, described as 'creative' by sources, marks the end of an era for the long-running medical drama.
Rhimes said in a statement: 'Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy's love story evolve and deepen – two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other. It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves.'
Kim Raver, who first joined the cast in season six, expressed gratitude in a heartfelt message, calling her role an 'incredible privilege' and thanking fans for their 'unwavering devotion'. Kevin McKidd, the longest-serving series regular alongside original cast members, reflected: 'Grey's Anatomy has been a huge chapter of my life... I'm deeply grateful for everything the show has given me.'
While the actors are beloved, Owen Hunt has long been a controversial figure among fans, often labelled the 'most hated character' for his treatment of Teddy, involvement in a plane crash, and perceived misogyny.
