Ticket sales for the 2027 London revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George, starring Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande, have been delayed until autumn 2026. The production, set for summer 2027 at the Barbican Centre, was originally expected to release tickets in May 2026, but that deadline has passed.
Reason for Delay
According to Deadline, producers postponed ticket sales to allow Grande to complete her Eternal Sunshine tour, which concludes on September 1, 2026, after a run of shows at London's O2 Arena. The Standard has contacted Empire Street Productions and the Barbican for comment.
Star-Studded Reunion
Grande, 33, and Bailey, 38, previously starred together in the film adaptation of Wicked as Glinda and Fiyero, respectively. The role earned Grande an Oscar nomination, and the films achieved global success. The duo first teased the stage reunion in January 2026 via Instagram, sharing a photo of themselves in front of Georges Seurat's painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, which the musical is based on. The caption referenced the musical's famous song: “All it has to be is good.”
Production Details
The original musical, created by Sondheim and James Lapine, debuted on Broadway in 1984. It follows a fictionalized Seurat as he completes the portrait, exploring challenges in understanding life and art, and his relationship with his lover and muse, Dot. The upcoming production will be directed by Olivier Award-winner Marianne Elliott and produced by Empire Street Productions.
Bailey has previously appeared in the West End, including in Richard II in 2025 and a gender-swapped revival of Company, which won him an Olivier Award in 2019. Grande will make her West End debut with this production.
