Grace cliffhanger leaves fans wanting more as Bergerac reboot offers detective drama fix

ITV crime drama Grace concluded its sixth series on Sunday with a dramatic cliffhanger, as DS Roy Grace (John Simm) watched his new wife Cleo taken hostage on their wedding day. The episode ended with Grace powerless, asking gang leader Albazi, 'What do you want?' ITV has since confirmed that John Simm will return for a seventh series, but fans looking for immediate detective drama can turn to the rebooted Bergerac.

The revived Bergerac, set and shot in Jersey, has earned a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its first series. The show follows troubled detective Jim Bergerac (Damien Molony), a recovering alcoholic and widower. The original series aired in the 1980s with John Nettles, while the reboot premiered in 2025.

Series two, which began last week, sees Bergerac start dating and investigate a wedding murder where the groom is found dead in his hotel room. The cast includes Zoe Wanamaker as mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford, Robert Gilbert as Barney Crozier, and Chloe Sweetlove as his daughter Kim. Newcomers Adrian Edmondson and Lesley Sharp join for series two.
