Gogglebox returned for its 26th series on Friday evening, introducing five new households to the Channel 4 favourite. Among the fresh faces were Andrew, 62, and Alfie, 32, from the Cotswolds, who left viewers shocked when it emerged they are husband and wife.
Fans took to social media to express their surprise, with many admitting they initially mistook the pair for father and son. One viewer wrote on X: 'That Cotswold couple look like father and son.' Another added: 'At first I thought they were father and son. Now I'm just jealous of the new couple on #gogglebox as I, too, would like an older husband with a house in the Cotswolds.'
The show also welcomed Sara from Yorkshire with her daughter-in-law Lara, Scottish friends Jake and Calum, and mum-and-dad duo Andre and Sarah with their daughter Chee from Surrey. Meanwhile, returning favourites included siblings Ellie and Izzi, and best pals Jenny and Lee.
However, some fans were disappointed by the absence of Scottish couple Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle. The pair, who made history as the first Scottish couple on the show in February 2022, confirmed earlier this year that Channel 4 had not invited them back for the new series. In a TikTok video, Roisin wrote: 'After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa, Channel 4 have decided it's time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26.'
The new series of Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
