Good Morning Britain's Ben Shephard Forced into 'Major Surgery' After On-Air Mishap
GMB's Ben Shephard Forced Into Surgery After On-Air Accident

Good Morning Britain star Ben Shephard has been sidelined from the ITV sofa after a freak accident during a live broadcast led to him requiring immediate "major surgery". The popular presenter, a staple of the morning show, revealed the shocking news to concerned fans on social media.

The incident unfolded during what seemed like a normal segment. Shephard was demonstrating a product on air when he suffered a sudden and severe injury to his finger. The on-air mishap was serious enough to warrant an urgent trip to the hospital and an unforeseen operation.

Taking to Instagram, Shephard shared a photo from his hospital bed, his hand heavily bandaged. He explained the bizarre chain of events to his followers, stating the accident happened "in the middle of the show" and apologised for his abrupt absence from the screen.

His co-hosts and the GMB team were reportedly just as surprised by the sudden turn of events. The show must go on, however, and Shephard's place alongside Susanna Reid was quickly filled by fellow broadcaster Kate Garraway.

This isn't the first time the 49-year-old presenter has faced a health scare linked to the programme. Shephard previously dislocated his shoulder during a segment with the British Army, proving that live television can be a dangerous business.

Fans and colleagues have since flooded social media with messages of support, wishing the beloved TV personality a speedy recovery and a swift return to the famous blue sofa.
