A small fire at ITV's London studios forced the breakfast programme Good Morning Britain off air on Tuesday morning. The London Fire Brigade confirmed the blaze broke out in the post room on the first floor of the block of offices at the ITV television centre on the South Bank. Four fire engines and 21 firefighters were dispatched to the scene after the brigade received the call just before 07:00 GMT.
Fifty people were evacuated from the building as firefighters tackled the fire, which has now been extinguished. No injuries were reported. ITV replaced Good Morning Britain with a pre-recorded programme while the incident unfolded. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A statement from the London Fire Brigade said: 'Part of a post room on the first floor was damaged by fire. The fire meant that Good Morning Britain was taken off air.' The brigade added that the fire was small and contained to the post room.
Presenter Kate Garraway posted a video on Twitter, saying: 'We're all outside, the building has been evacuated. The fire service are here now so we're not too worried, but who knows when we'll actually get back on air.' Co-host Ben Shephard shared a picture of Garraway and Ranvir Singh with some of the firefighters.
Good Morning Britain resumed at 08:30 GMT as the Lorraine programme began as scheduled. It is not the first time the show has been disrupted by a fire; last August, the studios were evacuated after a fuse box overheated on the third floor, where GMB is filmed.
