GB News presenter Patrick Christys has revealed what it was like to work at the channel during its early days, claiming that competitors "tried to shut us down." The revelation came during a TV special marking the channel's fifth anniversary on Thursday night (August 6).
Reflecting on Five Years
In the opening segment, the 34-year-old broadcaster gave viewers an insight into the first few months of the company. He said: "First, they mocked us and said we wouldn't last six months. Then, they tried to shut us down, but here we are. We must be doing something right."
Christys continued: "We've been with you through the highs, and we've been with you through the lows. We've been with you through the new dawns, and we've been with you through the rollercoaster of British politics. Despite all the chaos that has unfolded over the last five years, we have stayed true to who we are, a voice for every bit of Britain."

He added: "We've exposed countless things about the illegal migrant crisis, and we have highlighted the plight of our farmers, and we will always, always, always remember our brave veterans. You have been there for us, and I hope that you feel that we have always been there for you."

The anniversary comes just one week after Christys sparked uproar with an update on illegal migrant crossings. He was joined by photographer Adrian, who reported from the English Channel and revealed he has "a group of people down the coastline" providing information on small-boat arrivals.
The report drew criticism as Prime Minister Andy Burnham addressed the figures, saying: "The numbers can fluctuate, but, overall, boat crossings are down, down quite significantly year on year. So that does suggest the plan is working."
