The first three episodes of Furious are now streaming on Disney+. The series, created by Elizabeth Meriwether of New Girl fame, follows an FBI agent on the trail of a mysterious female serial killer.
As their lives intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur. The show explores victim psychology, revenge, and whether the justice system protects the vulnerable.
What is Furious about?
Meriwether told The AV Club: “Well, it’s interesting because I’ve obviously never written a crime thriller. But I would go home from the New Girl writers’ room and just watch them because that was how I relaxed—watching a dark British murder drama.”
She added: “So I do love them, and I’ve watched so many over the years. I sort of naively thought, ‘Oh, I can write one’, and then I got into writing [Furious] and I was like, ‘Wow, this is really hard’. But I do love trying new things.”
“My way into being able to write a thriller is just character—just digging into the human beings behind all of it. I found myself gravitating away from the cool computers at the FBI and stuff like that because it’s not my sweet spot. The reason I love those shows is because they have characters at these really extreme points in their lives and it’s just a chance to dig into raw, weird psychology. That was what I jumped into with this show.”

Where you’ve seen the cast before
Emmy Rossum is best known as Fiona Gallagher in the US version of Shameless, which she played from 2011 to 2019. She also starred in films like The Day After Tomorrow, The Phantom of the Opera, and Dragonball: Evolution. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Rossum said of leaving Shameless: “I wanted to stay in the job. I loved the job. I loved the job until it felt like there wasn’t enough juice to squeeze out of the lemon. We had made 110 episodes…”
She continued: “I left with a lot of grief and sorrow and I would miss all those people and I couldn’t believe they were going to go on a journey without me. But I was also really excited. I felt like I was launching.”
Other cast members include Lola Petticrew (Dating Amber), Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Power), Scoot McNairy (Speak No Evil), and Jake Lacy (The White Lotus). Lacy also appeared in the final season of The US Office.
The first three episodes are out now, with new episodes every Monday. There are eight episodes in total.
