Fans of the hit Prime Video series The Boys have been left astonished after discovering the real accent of Tomer Capone, the actor who portrays the beloved character Frenchie. Capone, 40, is actually Israeli and does not speak with the thick French accent his character is known for, leaving many viewers taken aback.
Frenchie's Role in The Boys
Tomer Capone stars as the impulsive and quick-witted former hitman, who plays an invaluable role in Billy Butcher's vigilante group. Frenchie is a complex character—a former hitman, drugs-runner, bomb maker, and chemist—whose loyalty and skills are crucial to the team's mission to take down the terrifying supervillain Homelander (Antony Starr).
The fifth and final season of The Boys is currently airing, with new episodes landing every week. In recent episodes, viewers saw Homelander rebrand himself as a Messiah, driven by the delusion that he is destined to become God. This came after he discovered that his nemesis Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) no longer possessed the superhero-killing virus, which was the only thing standing in his way.
A fresh episode released on April 29 follows the lives of several characters over the course of one day, including Billy's dog. Meanwhile, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Homelander take a trip to Los Angeles in pursuit of V-1, a substance that would make Homelander truly immortal if found.
Fan Reactions to Capone's Real Accent
As fans continue to be gripped by the drama, many have been surprised after seeing interviews with Capone. Unlike his on-screen counterpart, he does not speak with a French twang. In red carpet chats, his natural Israeli accent is evident, which has sparked a flurry of comments online.
"I was surprised to find out he was Israeli. The dude really got his French accent down to a T," penned one fan. "It feels wrong not hearing him use his French accent lol," said another. "I would never have guessed he was Israeli, he def pulls off the French accent. And I know a lot of Israelis. Wow!" commented another series fan. "Frenchie without a French accent is so strange!" remarked another viewer. "Wait... THIS IS TOMER'S ACTUAL VOICE???" another viewer exclaimed under an interview clip with the star.
Critique of Karl Urban's British Accent
While fans have been convinced by Capone's French accent, many were quick to critique the British accent put on by New Zealand star Karl Urban in his role as The Boys' ringleader, Billy Butcher. Urban's attempt at a Cockney accent has been a topic of discussion among fans. "Karl Urban's 'cockney', on the other hand... Volumes could be written on it, though I wouldn't have it any other way at this point," joked one fan. Meanwhile, another British fan remarked: "Wait till you hear us Brits tell you about Butcher's accent."
The Boys Season 5 is now streaming on Prime Video, with new episodes released every Wednesday.
