Fiona Bruce has revealed she became emotional while filming the new series of Fake or Fortune. The BBC star told The One Show's Alex Jones and Vernon Kay about a touching moment that left her in tears.
Moving human story
Bruce said: "The picture that's coming up this week has just got an incredible human story behind it. I actually cried in the programme, which I am embarrassed about. I knew, as soon as tears came to my eyes, I could see the camera closing in. It's really, really touching."
The long-running show, first aired in 2011, sees Bruce and Philip Mould help people authenticate works of art. One recent episode featured a painting worth upwards of £100,000.
Childhood home visit
During the interview, Alex Jones noted that the programme was filmed near where Bruce grew up. Bruce recalled visiting her old home: "We were filming there, and I said, 'Come on Philip, let's go past my old house'. As we did, I thought I'd just go and knock on the door and see if they'll let me in, which they did!"
She added: "I said, 'I hope you don't mind, I used to live here,' and they said they knew. I left that house when I was 10 so I asked how do you know. They said, 'You left your mark here.'"
The owner took Bruce to her old attic bedroom, where she had written her name and practised her signature on a door facing the eaves. "Because it's facing into the eaves, they never bothered to paint over it! So it was still there," she said.
Coincidental connection
Philip Mould then shared that he lived three miles from Bruce when they were growing up, suggesting they may have crossed paths as children.
