Fans who have binged all six episodes of Ann Droid are united in a single request: a second series. The BBC comedy, which stars Diane Morgan as a social humanoid robot, premiered last month to mixed reviews, but seems to have won over viewers by the end.
The show follows Linda, a humanoid robot built to keep elderly people company and monitor their health. Sue, played by Sue Johnston, receives Linda from her son Michael (Paul Ready), who introduces the robot after the death of her husband David and his decision to move out and attempt to reconcile his marriage. Intended to help Sue live independently, Linda instead becomes her worst nightmare. Set against a rising tide of AI in society, the series asks: 'What is replaceable and what is not?'
The BBC synopsis teases: 'An overly attentive, socially inept pain in the a***. But she soon works out she can use the droid to her benefit in settling scores and doing the things her son never gets round to. What develops is a buddy comedy between an older woman and her robot who isn't quite as advanced socially as she is technically.'
Viewers all asking for season 2
Several fans have now taken to social media to plead for another outing. One person simply wrote: '#ANNDROID: need series 2 asap.' Another said: 'Have now watched every episode of Ann Droid on BBC iPlayer and can thoroughly recommend it. It deals with the effects of loneliness and old age beautifully and in a funny way. Reminded me of sitcoms like Dinnerladies and Mum - I hope there is series 2.'
A third commented: 'That last episode of Ann Droid is heartbreaking. It took me a while to love this series, really hope we get a season 2.' A fourth added: 'I wasn't going to but ended up binging Ann Droid in the end, loved it. The last was the best episode, so stick with it. Hoping there's a way to make another series.'

Diane Morgan on the show's unexpected emotional core
Ahead of the series airing, the Last One Laughing star addressed the touching moments that emerge in Ann Droid despite its comedic premise. She said: 'That sort of accidentally happened. The more we wrote the story and realised it was about grief and looking after elderly parents it started to become more poignant. And then when Sue was doing it, it started to have heart, which was incredible because that's not what we set out to do. We thought it would just be a silly comedy about a slightly rubbish robot.'
