Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley has warned that Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle's relationship will face a new 'test' amid the return of Robert's ex, Kev Townsend. Kev, played by Chris Coghill, is set to make a comeback to the ITV soap after his previous stint last year.
Hawley, who plays Robert, acknowledged that while the couple are stronger now, they will be challenged by developments surrounding the farm and Moira Dingle. 'I think that their relationship is going to be tested by the things that are happening with the farm and certainly with Moira, that's a huge obstacle for them. I don't know how they'll navigate that,' he told reporters.
In upcoming scenes, Robert and Aaron will play detective as they search for new evidence to clear Moira's name. Hawley described filming the scenes at a storage facility with shipping containers as 'fun' and a change of scenery from the usual Emmerdale backdrop.
The actor expressed hope that the show is building a foundation for the Sugden family, with Robert and Aaron at the helm of a new era. He said: 'It feels like the show is building a kind of a foundation for the Sugden family, for hopefully when Victoria returns, and Harry and Aaron. It feels like there's these tribes that are emerging.'
Hawley also praised Chris Coghill's acting skills, despite joking that he does not 'particularly like' him. 'I loved working with Chris. I felt very blessed to get to work with him. Just a great actor,' he added.
