Jack Downham, the actor who has portrayed Noah Dingle on Emmerdale for 17 years, is reportedly set to leave the ITV soap opera as part of a major cast shake-up. According to The Sun, Downham has already filmed his final scenes and will bow out on screen within the coming weeks. The departure is said to be linked to cost-cutting initiatives that have already seen several other cast members exit the long-running programme.
Departure Amid Cost-Cutting Measures
A source told The Sun that Downham is "looking at the positives though and is hopeful about future opportunities." The actor, who joined the soap at the age of six in 2009, has appeared in more than 800 episodes of Emmerdale. His character Noah Dingle is the son of Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Chris Tate (Peter Amory) and has been involved in numerous major storylines over the years.
Emmerdale has a longstanding policy of not announcing most cast departures to avoid spoiling storyline outcomes. When approached by Express, an Emmerdale spokesperson said: "We don't comment on cast contracts." Daily Star has also approached ITV for comment but has not yet received a response.
Downham Reflects on His Time on the Soap
In a 2021 interview with Inside Soap, Downham spoke about his experiences growing up on the show. "I've loved it," he said. "It's quite strange to be around adults all the time, but I think it's helped me mature in a lot of ways. On the other hand, I've missed out on my fair share of events and things with friends my own age, but it's all part and parcel of having such a great opportunity."
He added: "The constant drama is a great part of it. There's always something going on. Plus, everyone who plays a part in the Dingle family is so nice to work with. I've definitely learnt so much from Emma (Atkins) and she's always looked after me."
Other Cast Exits in Recent Months
Downham joins a growing list of Emmerdale cast members who have departed the show in recent months. Bradley Johnson, who plays Vinny Dingle, is also set to leave. Other notable exits this year include Nick Miles, who portrayed Jimmy King for 22 years, and Dawn Taylor actress Olivia Bromley. The departures are part of a broader cost-saving strategy by the ITV soap.
Fans can expect to see Noah Dingle's final scenes air in the coming weeks, though the exact storyline details remain under wraps to preserve surprise.
