Emmerdale's Monty Dingle dies in emotional farewell as final air date confirmed
Emmerdale's Monty Dingle dies; final episodes air next week

Emmerdale's Monty Dingle is set to say goodbye to the Dales as ITV confirms his final air dates. The beloved family dog first appeared in 2018 as a companion for the late Zak Dingle after the death of previous Irish Wolfhound Alfie.

Cancer diagnosis

In recent scenes, Monty was trapped in a shed that Kyle set alight, and Cain rescued him. At the vets, Paddy revealed Monty had a metastatic tumour, explaining his slow recovery from smoke inhalation. Paddy advised Cain to 'give him longer' with more cuddles and love.

Cain's decision

Cain considered radiotherapy for himself after reflecting on his own cancer diagnosis, but confirmed Monty would go into palliative care. A second opinion confirmed the tumour had spread and chemotherapy would not help.

Final episodes

Monty's last chapter airs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (August 4, 5, 6). Cain plans to ask Kyle about Moira adopting him, but when Moira leaves to visit injured Nana Barton, Cain handles the conversation alone. Kyle is blindsided and seeks Kerry's advice.

Kyle returns to give his answer but is interrupted when Sam finds Monty unwell. Rhona suggests the tumour has spread further. Cain views his fate as entwined with Monty's.

Cain finds Monty sleeping on Zak's grave and decides it's time to say goodbye. He explains to the boys, then at the vets shares an emotional moment with his sons. At Isaac's suggestion, Cain agrees to give Monty a Dingle funeral. His eulogy unites the family in grief, love, and hope.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX and YouTube from 7am.
