Former EastEnders star Toby-Alexander Smith, who played serial killer Gray Atkins, has announced a surprising career shift into scriptwriting. The 32-year-old actor shared a photo on Instagram of a manuscript titled 'written by Toby-Alexander Smith', teasing fans with the caption: 'Now to get this bad boy finished. #newproject #watchthisspace.'
Smith left the BBC soap last year after his character was arrested for murdering his wife Chantelle, as well as Tina Carter and Kush Kazemi. Since then, he has been focusing on fatherhood with fiancée Amy Walsh, an Emmerdale actress, and their daughter Bonnie, born in January 2022.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Smith said he was 'very happy using this time now just to be present with Amy and Bonnie' and enjoying being a full-time dad. He hasn't ruled out a return to EastEnders but told The Sun he doubts fans would want a redemption arc for Gray, adding: 'I think justice needs to be seen.'
