Emmerdale viewers were left stunned on Monday night (December 22) as Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) made a dramatic return, emerging from the bushes to spy on his estranged husband, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley). The sinister reappearance sets the stage for a revenge plot targeting both Robert and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
Kev's return follows an earlier storyline in which he was revealed to be Robert's prison spouse. After arriving in the village, Kev claimed to be terminally ill, but was later exposed as a fraud by Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), who had unwittingly acted as his getaway driver during an armed robbery. Robert ended their relationship, and after a violent confrontation, Kev left.
In Monday's episode, Ross Barton (Mike Parr) found himself accused by Aaron of damaging his car's windscreen, with Robert also drawn into the heated dispute. Robert had been persistent in trying to persuade Angela, the aunt of his late son Seb's mother Rebecca White, to allow him to bring Seb home. Angela eventually agreed to meet the couple, leaving them hopeful.
Meanwhile, Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) suggested to Ross that if he was not responsible for the vandalism, the real culprit was still at large. Moments later, Kev materialised from the bushes, watching Robert from a distance, confirming his return to the village.
