One of Emmerdale's most popular couples could be on the verge of a dramatic split, as star Emma Atkins hints at trouble ahead for Charity Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd.
Romance and recent turmoil
Charity (Emma Atkins) and Mack (Lawrence Robb) began their relationship in late 2021, but their journey has been far from smooth. Recently, Mack discovered Charity's one-night stand with Ross Barton (Michael Parr), which resulted in a pregnancy. Around the same time, Charity agreed to be a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), but it was later revealed the baby she was carrying was Ross's and not biologically related to Sarah or her husband Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant).
Despite being heartbroken by Charity's lies, Mack chose to support her after she was sexually assaulted by Dr Todd (Caroline Harker).
Actress teases potential split
Speaking to Reach and other media, Atkins suggested the couple's future is uncertain. "With soaps you just don't know what's around the corner. It might suddenly take an extreme turn and she [Charity] might be met with him [Mack] saying, 'I just can't do it anymore,'" she said.
When asked about what she hopes for the characters, Atkins admitted: "Selfishly as an actor working with Lawrence, I'd be gutted if that came to an end." She acknowledged the transient nature of soap contracts, adding: "The longevity is only as long as your contract is. I've always had that mentality so I've always been ok with change... I will miss working with Lawrence if they chose to split us up. But if they do split us up I think everyone will probably understand why."
