Emmerdale's DS Thea star's past TV roles revealed

Emmerdale viewers have been left gobsmacked after discovering where they recognise the actress who portrays DS Thea Ramsden. Thea (Chelsea Edge) made her first appearance on the long-running ITV soap earlier this year. She arrived as the detective investigating the death of Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker).

The villainous Caitlin - who both sexually assaulted and blackmailed Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) - was accidentally killed by Charity's granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill). Charity has since shouldered the blame and has been sent to prison.

Thea's dramatic Emmerdale storyline

Meanwhile, it was revealed that Thea shares a connection with fellow newcomer Serena (Casey Al-Shaqsy). Then, in a dramatic twist, it was confirmed that Thea is in fact the long-lost daughter of Kim Tate (Claire King). Thea is now hell-bent on revenge after Kim abandoned her as a newborn and put her up for adoption years ago.

However, some viewers were recently left astonished upon discovering Chelsea Edge's television history. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one user wrote: "Can someone tell me where I've seen Thea before? I recognise her face."

Fans spot Chelsea Edge in Death in Paradise

A fellow fan responded: "Death in Paradise." A third added: "She was in Death in Paradise, played Ralf Little's girlfriend." Yet another viewer then declared: "That's where I recognise her from."

Chelsea portrayed Sophie Chambers in the BBC's Death in Paradise, appearing as the romantic interest of DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little). Her character arrived on the enduring detective drama as a backpacker who swiftly embarked on a relationship with DI Neville.

Yet the storyline took an unexpected twist. Sophie subsequently implicated Neville in the murder of criminologist David Cartwright (Patrick Kennedy). Chelsea featured in the programme across 7 episodes spanning 2022 to 2023.

Other roles and what's next

The actress's additional television work encompasses the Sky comedy Brassic with Michelle Keegan, 2020's I Hate Suzie and the BBC drama Reunion which broadcast last year.

Previously discussing her Death in Paradise role, Sophie had explained: "When you go on holiday you have a little crush and you know it's not going to last forever. But I think she has such a soft spot for him and coming away from it – she's trying to be a realist – coming back, she's like, 'How have I left this incredible island and this guy I really like.' She doesn't want to let it go."

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
